Three adjectives is not a personality
Most tools hand you "kind, brave, stubborn". That is a description of a nice person, and it will not survive one page of writing, because nothing in it can go wrong.
A personality needs a place where it disagrees with itself. That is what the contradiction line is for, and it is the one most people skip.
Why the contradiction matters most
"The most generous person in the room, and keeps a precise mental list of what they are owed." You already know how that person behaves at a dinner, in an argument, and after being let down. Six adjectives could not have told you any of that.
- The core is the summary, one line, the thing a friend would say about them.
- The flaw has to cost something. "Too caring" is not a flaw, it is a job interview answer.
- The contradiction is the engine. It is where scenes come from.
- The tell is how a reader knows without being told.
Using it for an OC
Pick the temperament closest to what you already half-know about them, and roll. Keep the two lines that surprise you. The rest is scaffolding you can throw away.
Using it to fix a flat character
If a character is boring, they are usually consistent. Roll a contradiction, staple it on, and see what breaks. The thing that breaks is your next chapter.
